EIGHT years after hitting the headlines as the maiden award winner of the Webb of Excellence scholarship scheme for brilliant-but-needy female day students of the Ada Senior High School, Stella Kabukuor Akpanglo is in the news again – and for good reasons.

On Friday, September 20, 2024, she graduated with FIRST CLASS HONOURS in Bachelor of Arts (Junior High School Specialism) at the Mount Mary College of Education at Somanya in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The College is affiliated to the University of Ghana, Legon.

This was the second batch of students presented for the B. Ed Program and the first batch of Legon-affiliated students and Stella has every reason to be proud of her achievement.

Fact is that after successfully completing the Senior High School program in 2017, Stella could not immediately further her education due to financial constraints. So, in 2019, the Webb of Excellence had to go to her aid with a special package of Ghc2,300 (Two Thousand Three Hundred Ghana Cedis) to enable her to pursue her four-year course at Mount Mary College of Education.

No wonder, she was full of praise to the Canada-based Founder of the scheme, Miss Eleanor Webb, when the Administrators of the Fund caught up with her during the graduation ceremony.

“Words cannot express how much this means to me. I will never forget your support and kindness. I am eternally grateful. Every day of my work in the teaching field will be filled with sweet memories of the positive impact the Webb of Excellence has made in my life,” Stella remarked.

“I’m only sad that my dear Daddy (Francis Asare Akpanglo) who also toiled so much to help me get this far, did not live long enough to witness this memorable day. He passed on barely five days to the event and I have, therefore, decided to jointly dedicate the award to him and Miss Webb.”

In appreciation of her distinguished performance, Webb of Excellence offered Stella a cheque of Ghc500 (Five Hundred Ghana Cedis) and it was presented to her by the chairman of the Fund, Dr Gabriel Ofoe Canacoo, at a brief ceremony at the school.

A letter, accompanying the cheque, signed by the Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Amoako, said, among other things, that “we had, no doubt, whatsoever, about your capabilities since you won our maiden award as far back as 2015, and we admire your determination, energy, guts and tenacity in bracing the odds”.

Stella’s mum, Bernice Mamle Sameh, who also graced the occasion, was full of gratitude to the Webb of Excellence for the support given to her daughter.

Stella is currently undergoing her one-year compulsory national service at the Big Ada Methodist School after which the Ghana Education Service (GES) will formally post to a school in the country to begin her teaching career.

Webb of Excellence wishes her all the best in her future endeavours.
